Art AppraisalsEthical standards and IRS regulations prohibit museum staff from offering value appraisals of any kind, including authentication of art, artifacts and documents. We suggest that you seek the advice of an accredited appraiser in your area who is a member of a recognized professional society of appraisers. Professional appraiser organizations include the International Society of Appraisers, the American Society of Appraisers, the Appraiser National Association and the Appraisers Association of America.
While the museum does not recommend appraisers, we are happy to provide information that may assist patrons in locating appraisal services. This information does not constitute an endorsement of appraiser qualifications, and the museum cannot guarantee that the appraisal will be qualified under IRS rules. Careful research of the prospective appraisal firm is advisable prior to making a final selection.
