Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is meant by "demonstrating"?

If you pledge to create art at your booth (painting, drawing, sculpting, etc.) then your outdoor booth is free or you'll receive $20 off your indoor booth fee.  Also, we are looking for a few individuals who would like to give scheduled demonstrations of their techniques.  If you're interested, please indicate so on your application.

How will the sales work through the gift shop?

When you arrive, you will be assigned a number from the gift shop and given a sales slip book.  When someone wishes to purchase an artwork from you, then you will give them a sales slip showing your number and the purchase price.  They will take that information to the gift shop and pay for the item, bringing the receipt back to you.  After seeing the receipt, you can give the buyer his/her new artwork. A check for your sales (less 25% commission) will be mailed to you by May 4.

Will you be offering any monetary visual arts prizes?

There are no monetary prizes offered for visual artists or payments made to performance artists at this time.  Those who participate do so because they share our vision that this event is an opportunity for collaborating with other artists, sharing our knowledge, talents, and passion for the arts with the community, and strengthening respect and appreciation for the arts in Shawnee and Oklahoma at large.

What equipment is included as part of the booth spaces?

The outdoor booth space is just space.  You'll need to bring table(s), chairs, canopies (weights), hanging systems, shelving--anything that you will need.

The indoor spaces come with one 6'-8' table and one chair (if you request them and if they are available).  You can use the wall to hang your art, but you will need to bring hammers, hardware, etc.  You may also bring additional display systems/equipment provided that it does not exceed the size of your space or block the aisle or block any other participant's booth. If you are planning to create at your booth, bring a drop cloth.

Are the outdoor booth areas shaded?

Provided that the ground is not soggy from previous rain, there will be several naturally shaded areas available. However, if you have a canopy or sun umbrella, it would be a good idea to bring it just in case.

Is there a dress code? Can I wear my painting clothes?

There is no set dress code for artists.  If you are to be demonstrating at your booth, then you would likely want to wear clothes that are not too precious.

Can I bring my family?

Absolutely!  We will be having a lot of activities to keep your family members busy while you're working.  In addition to the arts performances, there will be many FREE hands-on activities and take-home projects.
