The goal of the museum is to be a regional center for life-long learning through sharing the arts with the community. In keeping with that goal, the Cultural Connections performance series enables students and adults, who may not have this opportunity otherwise, to connect with the knowledge and traditions of another culture.
Cultural Connections is presented in the fall and in the spring. The performer(s) present at assemblies in Shawnee area schools during the week and perform at the museum on the following Saturday. The museum performance is open to the public and free of charge.
Cultural Connections performances are selected to correspond to areas represented in the museum's permanent collections or to enhance the content of a temporary exhibition.
All Cultural Connections performers are of the highest standard, often these musicians and dancers are internationally known and many are listed on the touring artist rosters of their states' arts councils.
