Community Art Day
The museum hosts Communty Art Days throughout the year with each exhibition. These fun Saturdays are free and open to the public. They are usually from 1:00 pm to 3:00 and offer hands- on activities for participants of all ages.
Next Community Art Day: March 6, 1 pm
Kalinka featuring Sergey Vashchenko and Vladimir Kaliazine.
Kalinka represents a combination of unique instruments and repertoires that showcase the artists’ Eurasian heritage and training, balalaika and bayan acoustic music being the language of the region. After performing throughout Russia and Europe, the duo came to the United States to settle in Texas. Whether performing spectacular classical and traditional Russian works, or internationally known favorites, their charm and virtuosity is evident. Sergey Vashchenko is dazzling on the balalaika, a traditional Russian three-stringed instrument. Vladimir Kaliazine plays the bayan, a Russian five-row chromatic button instrument (button accordian). Together these sounds conjure excitement, mystery and romance. Kalinka provides a performance of unique and exciting Russian music followed by an introduction of Russian folklore and cultural traditions.
See Sergey play Kalinka on the balalaika.
