Michi Susan: An Oklahoma Treasure will feature works by acclaimed Oklahoma City artist Michi Susan. Michi was born in Tokyo, Japan, and educated at Japan’s Women’s University and Hosei University. She moved to Oklahoma City in 1978. She is an internationally recognized artist who has received numerous awards including the Oklahoma Governor’s Arts Award in 2010. She is known for her use of vivid colors, her handmade papers, and her use of Japanese calligraphy in her mixed media pieces.

Susan considers all of her work to be landscapes—everything is landscape including the people, places, ideas, and experiences. Susan said, “I express myself through my paper, and I hope people enjoy my work. Everyone interprets art differently and it speaks to people in many ways. If you feel a certain way from somebody’s painting, that’s it. That’s what it is.”

This exhibit is curated by Michi and her longtime friend and gallery owner Ben Pickard. The exhibit showcases the wide variety of art that Michi has created over her career including sculpture as well as paintings and collage.
