Weapons and Warriors: The Art of Armaments

July 2 – August 15, 2010
Exhibition Lecture and Reception:
July 30, 7:00 p.m.
Lecture:
Japanese Swords: Soul of the Samurai
Bob Pickering, PhD., Senior Curator at the Gilcrease Museum
About the exhibition:
This exhibition includes arms and armor from several different cultures and civilizations including pieces ranging from 16th century Japanese armor, to African swords and spears, to a medieval crossbow. Art of Armaments discusses not only the practical nature of these weapons, but the skill of producing these pieces and the beauty therein. Humans have used weapons since Paleolithic times, improving the design and effectiveness of the pieces over the centuries. Weapons tell a story of the time and society in which they were created and used.
