2010 MGMoA Regional:
A Promise of Home

November 5 - 21
Opening Reception November 5, 7:00pm.
Free and open to the public.
For this year’s regional art exhibit, the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art is joining Family Promise of Shawnee in their quest to help homeless families with children. The title and theme for the exhibit is A Promise of Home. Artists from Shawnee, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and the surrounding communities have submitted artworks created from a variety of materials that reference home or homelessness. The purpose of the exhibit at the Mabee-Gerrer is to showcase the area’s many talented artists and also to collect much-needed items for Family Promise.
Bring a new, unwrapped personal paper product (paper towels, toilet paper, facial tissues) or personal hygiene product (soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, hand sanitizer, etc.) to the museum during the run of the exhibit, November 5-21 and get in FREE! All of the products collected by the museum will be donated to Family Promise of Shawnee who will distribute them to the homeless families with children participating in their programs.
Family Promise is a nationwide, nonprofit organization dedicated to helping displaced families with children gain independence. Family Promise of Shawnee began helping homeless families in the Shawnee area in January 2005. The local organization assists 16 or more families per year with the aid of 16 local churches and hundreds of volunteers. Family Promise provides their participants with meals and safe lodging that allows the families to stay together. They also provide a variety of support services to their participating families including mentoring, financial counseling, and transportation.
